[Taiwan] TIPO released IPR statistics for first half of 2020

  The Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) released statistics regarding applications of intellectual property right in the first half of 2020.

A quick glance on the figures:
  • Patent : Total applications - 33,954, showing a 4% decrease compared to the first half of 2019
  • Domestic applicants contribute 1% of decrease in the total number of patent applications while the foreign-domiciled applicants contribute 8% of decrease
  • It is however worth noting that the number of #invention patent application filed by the domestic applicants is indeed increased by 1%
  • Trademark : Total applications - 43,386, which reach a new peak
  • Applications filed by the domestic applicants account for 71.3% of all trademark applications, which indicate a growth rate of 10% compared to the first half of 2019
  • In contrast, the number of applications filed by the foreign-domiciled applicants dropped by 12%
